I have started this blog quite a few times today. Putting it on paper makes it so much harder, but after googling ‘pubic ramus stress reaction’ I know I am not alone. Seems like pubic ramus stress fractures are quite common in women and unfortunately I almost have one!
I’ve been doing some modified training for a few weeks as I’ve had an annoying tight and unnatural feeling in my adductor insertion/pelvis region. I took a week rest and it settled down so I resumed modified training and thought I was sorted. I had significant bouts of treatment and was convinced I was good to go. I avoided anything super fast and got some really great running done.
Unfortunately, the awareness came back this week and a CT confirmed I have a stress reaction of the pubic ramus. Thankfully I stopped when I did as I’ve been googling the injury and for those that developed into a full fracture 3-6 months has gone by and the marathon runner is still not running full pelt.
The devastating aspect is that I am now not able to compete in the London Marathon on April 17th. Lachlan and I had received brand new super warm jackets and vests from adidas and these alongside my drink bottles which Tom already pasted Aussie flags on, were already packed in my suit case ready to go.
Time to re-plan for a race later in the year and a bunch of local options before I head overseas.
In the mean time, we assume the injury is me continuing to pay the price for the Delhi fun. After a couple of weeks rest it will be time to start some strength and stretching work to ensure this hiccup doesn’t happen again.
For anyone who’s reading this blog, number one lesson I cannot stress enough…if you have an awareness that something is not right, unless you are about to run in the Olympic marathon next week, don’t run through it – no good ever comes from running through awareness, let alone pain!
