Rewards & Punishments…for the love of chocolate!

When I think about training and racing I can’t help but think about the traditional approach to discipline; especially now I’m at the age where all my friends are having children. The approach to teach obedience using rewards and punishments is used to teach right and wrong and seems to work pretty well in most cases!

My nephew gets a Scooby-doo coloring book for good behavior (reward) and isn’t allowed to play with his Scooby-doo games for a week if he’s naughty (punishment)! As with disciplining children rewards and punishment fit very nicely into training and racing. The unfortunate part is that a training session or a race can be a reward, a punishment or even both at any given time! How does this relate to chocolate you might be wondering?
